Something people have struggled to get their head around with virtual events is if and when they should be charging for attendance. There are a few ways to go about it and it doesn’t only have to be through the traditional way of charging for ticket sales (though that will be our first point!). Read on for more ideas.
There are so many different elements that go into organising and hosting a successful event. From planning, to sending out invitations, to managing RSVPs and keeping in contact with attendees, to hosting the event itself; there are multiple moving parts. At Flock we believe in using the right tools to ensure event success. Flock offers an all-in-one eventing platform that you can use to take your event to the next level.
An event landing page is the first thing prospective guests see when looking for more information about your event. Therefore, creating your event landing page is arguably the most important step in the event marketing process.
What is an event landing page? Put simply, it’s the web page potential attendees first ‘land’ on after they’ve clicked advertisements or affiliate links to find out more about or sign up for your event. It is also the page specifically used to collect attendee registrations. A highly informative, eye-catching, and engaging landing page will lead to successful conversions for your event.
Recently we held an event for a conference that ended up with 3 times (!) the amount of anticipated attendees, all able to retrieve their CPD points after attending! The event managed to connect guests from all over South Africa to listen to top speakers in their field, get up to speed with developments in their industry, and stay at the forefront of their profession. The event was filled with expert information, high engagement and interaction from all guests, with Live Polls, Live Q&A, commentary, speaker ratings and ice breakers.
Part of what is missing in virtual events in comparison to physical events is often the ability to make the entire event venue “yours”. Virtual event platforms tend to be generic or unbranded which doesn’t necessarily work negatively against your event, but it is a missed opportunity to add a bit of sparkle to the experience.
2021 will be the year of virtual event design. Last year, the event space plummeted into crisis and we all had to make quick changes from live events to virtual spaces. Making quick changes and ‘pivoting’ due to necessity doesn’t always guarantee quality. Important elements to event planning, such as design, structure and consumer engagement, weren’t always considered. However, 2021 promises something different and more intentional. We have had the time to test ideas, make mistakes and learn from them. Now, event planners can go into the virtual space with a better understanding of what is needed, and how to host a virtual event that guarantees maximum engagement and interest.
Being able to attend an entire event virtually felt very futuristic until a few months ago when tech improved dramatically and new health situations encouraged us to change our view on traditional events. So, we have great news (and a solid solution for event planners that still need their events), with some attendees hesitant to travel or unable to be (physically) in one place all together.
This month Flock helped to host a webinar event for the EO Accelerator. Flock’s Founder and CEO, Mike Lysko was the MC and guided the speakers through topics and kept the audience engaged throughout the insightful event. The main focus of the event was to give entrepreneurs advice on how to scale their businesses and avoid making costly mistakes.
The importance of a solid, well-thought-out event communication plan cannot be stressed enough. An event communication plan is essentially a breakdown of how you will contact your audience, when you will do this and what exactly you will be communicating. In addition, the method you use to communicate with your potential guests and registered attendees, is extremely important for the following reasons:
As you may know by now, we are well into providing Virtual Events – through Mobile Event Apps to Event Websites (which we’ve been doing for years!) – but now everything can be even more neatly packaged for an Online Event experience that your attendees will love.
We’ve done a few upgrades to our system to better cater for a better online experience, as follows:
This month, we’ve had the privilege of facilitating an innovative virtual event for a global pet food company, through a partnership with Solutions Group Events. The kick-off conference and award ceremony was a huge success with attendees logged in from all over SA to enjoy the online festivities.
The aim of the event was to give the organisation’s SA based staff the opportunity to learn more about the global pet food giant, encourage local SA leadership teams and allow staff to network safely though the online virtual conference platform.
Flock Events Platform in partnership with event organisers, Event Wizards, was involved in an exciting event for EXXARO, a leading South African mining company. The event was entirely virtual, with Flock providing EXXARO with a custom mobile app and an event page.

Flock Eventing Platform, South Africa’s leading online events platform has, over the past ten months, received a significant increase in demand for virtual events. These requests have come from both local and global clients, due to the negative impact that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on live events.
This has created a number of exciting growth opportunities for Flock and has prompted a strategic move to establish a Flock office in Lisbon, Portugal.
2020 has been quite a year! We’ve seen the industry adapt and host some incredible online events. These events have brought people together to share memorable experiences.
Flock Eventing Platform was thrilled to assist the Gauteng SMME Summit host their annual event virtually for the first time.
The annual summit is hosted by the Gauteng Department of Economic Development.
The SMME Summit, held over two days in February this year, aims to help create access to information, financial assistance and access to markets for township-based businesses in the province.
We have reviewed research and blogs, articles and white papers on what makes certain events – some from more than 10 years back – stand out above all the rest. We’ve taken some of those, together with our favourite ideas in the events industry and smashed them all together to give you insight into the recipe that makes your events become favourites amongst your guests, with increased attendance and sky-high reviews. Whether your event is corporate or casual, it will be one that will definitely get attention. Common themes include emotions, networking with like-minded people to create connections, and incorporating a pleasant, unexpected surprise.

Hybrid events are fast becoming the future of the event management industry. With COVID-19 nearly crippling the industry entirely, events companies have had to pivot 360 degrees in order to stay afloat. Online gatherings have now become common place and have resulted in major developments in virtual technology. However, with the reopening of the events industry, albeit still under social distancing restrictions, hybrid events are quickly becoming the go-to for event’s planners and have shown promising results in growing the industry to new heights.
