Even though Virtual events are certainly picking up momentum, and rising in popularity with attendees, a few questions remain from an event planner’s point of view. This past weekend featured an incredible highlight for us with THAT. FUN. FIT. FEST being held completely online through our mobile app and streamed to more than 2800 people around the world tuning in to be a part of the fitness magic.
THAT. FUN. FIT. FEST is a fitness event that brings together friends and families of all ages every month to have the most epic fitness fun around – the vibe created is incredible, and it was amazing to be a part of translating that into a completely online event, especially in this time when fitness and fun are so needed.
Recently we held an event for a conference that ended up with 3 times (!) the amount of anticipated attendees, all able to retrieve their CPD points after attending! The event managed to connect guests from all over South Africa to listen to top speakers in their field, get up to speed with developments in their industry, and stay at the forefront of their profession. The event was filled with expert information, high engagement and interaction from all guests, with Live Polls, Live Q&A, commentary, speaker ratings and ice breakers.
2021 will be the year of virtual event design. Last year, the event space plummeted into crisis and we all had to make quick changes from live events to virtual spaces. Making quick changes and ‘pivoting’ due to necessity doesn’t always guarantee quality. Important elements to event planning, such as design, structure and consumer engagement, weren’t always considered. However, 2021 promises something different and more intentional. We have had the time to test ideas, make mistakes and learn from them. Now, event planners can go into the virtual space with a better understanding of what is needed, and how to host a virtual event that guarantees maximum engagement and interest.
Virtual Events can either be thought of as a challenge or an opportunity, and to be honest, it has a bit of both - just like physical events do. One of the biggest opportunities (we think) in Virtual Events is the chance to really create a spectacular show for the theatre in your attendee’s minds.

Flock is starting 2021 off with a bang! We have a host of exciting upcoming events and we can’t wait to get stuck in. We are excited to be working again with the PSG team on their Think Big Series for 2021, it promises to be thought-provoking and engaging as the previous series. The digital event landscape continues to grow and event tech innovations are rapidly changing how we connect.
Flock Eventing Platform assisted the Services Sector Education and Training Authority, Services SETA, in hosting their first ever entirely virtual annual general board meeting (AGM). The meeting took place on the 28th ofJanuary 2021 and had a total of 746 active guests who attended the virtual event.
Services SETA were not only looking to host their annual board meeting online but wanted to showcase their services and provide access to pre-recorded content to all their delegates, across South Africa. Flock Eventing Platform was able to provide a solution by setting up an online platform that allowed them to meet virtually as well as showcase a full list of their services and content. In addition, Flock also streamlined the registration process and provided a fully branded event landing page.
The popularity of virtual events has been increasing in the past few months since global lockdowns and the traditional way of searching for venues to host events have changed.
Even when hosting virtual events, spending some time searching for venues is still required to ensure the event is professional and that it provides the look and feel that you as an event planner, are carefully crafting.
Our webinar series has been a huge hit, and one of the firm favourites of the series is the 15 minute session on some tips and tricks to running successful and memorable virtual events, hosted by Calley Hayward.
At Flock, both Mike Lysko and Calley tend to be in the front line of what event planners request for their virtual events, ranging from smaller events to those with hundreds of participants, each with specific needs, so these tips and tricks come from experience of seeing what works, what could work better, and what should be skipped altogether.

In our last newsletter we were just about to launch the Knowledge Series, and so far we’ve done two webinars which were filled with insight from our guest speakers and discussions with guests. Our first webinar on 13 May had guest speaker Steve Pinto, CEO of New Reality and the second webinar on 27 May had Co-founder of Still Human, Andy Golding, sharing tips for speakers and maintaining a human connection online.
What do you do when a global corporation wants an on-demand solution for their multi-day event? Add to that requests for high engagement and activity, to keep hundreds of attendees informed and delighted throughout, with high security measures – it’s by no means a simple task.
The Flock team had to create an all-encompassing solution to provide members with event info, enable networking, and gain real-time feedback by engaging in live polls, live discussions, and feedback sessions throughout this Virtual Event.
We’ve done a lot over the last few months and had a ton of variety with the virtual events we are doing. We felt it would be apt to put together a full showcase to show event organisers the capabilities.
