The Backstory

MTN Group, formerly M-Cell is a South Africa-based multinational mobile telecommunications company, operating in many African, European and Asian countries. MTN host two flagship events in the Information Technology space which have increased in popularity over the years.

The App of the Year Awards is the champion of app development in the country; celebrating local homegrown talent, the out-of-the-box thinkers that drive disruption and change, and the genius light bulb ideas that soon become indispensable to everyday life.The IoT Conference and Awards is maturing, from a pure “challenge and awards” model into a broader event, including both awards and a conference – promoting knowledge and best practice sharing for developers and buyers in the connected infrastructure and Internet of Things space.

The Goal

An event experience that leaves people with meaningful connections.
MTN were looking for a mobile solution that provided attendees, participants, sponsors and exhibitors to connect with each other and have a fun element to the event.

Getting the event info to attendees was important and being able to make real-time changes was vital as sessions and information was changed last minute so participants needed the latest content.

The Solution

Flock provided a digital solution that allowed attendees to access the event info and ensure that it was up to date. Networking was enabled in the app where meetings were scheduled and in-app messages allowed for delegates to carry on with conversations post event.

The social feed showcased the best in IoT and App development which extended to a far reaching audience that were not present at the awards which helped increase the brand awareness for both events.The games in the app brought a fun aspect to the event and prizes were given out to incentivize attendees to participate.

Post Event Analytics

Once the event came to a close the Flock team were able to provide the event break down and analytics.

This is useful to MTN as they can see how the attendees benefitted from the event app as well as the interaction that took place with each element of the app.The team used the analytics in their planning for their future events to ensure attendees feedback was heard and to provide for a better event experience.
